Artists Notes

Richard Serra:
  • Doesn't think of what the outcome of the object will look like. He is more concerned with the elements work and look together as he goes along.
  • He is inspired by ships. How the objects are weighed down when they are docked but then become weightless and free when they are off at sea.
  • Always keeps a sketchbook with him
  • Always draws to keep in touch
  • Drawing is a form of informing himself like a dialogue with what he sees

Dorris S:
  • Works inside to out
  • Visuality to reality
  • Does not represent something bluntly, instead is a hint of something
  • Work is always very subtle
  • Makes art based on others experiences just not her own.
  • Uses elements we always see but in a very particular way.
